A.1.6 Volunteer/Fellowship agreement
Summary
The agreement every Fellow accepts before starting the Fellowship. It is a volunteer agreement, not an employment policy. The wording is preserved from the original Fellowship handbook. Fellows aim to spend 5–10 hours per week on their Fellowship project, stay in touch with their Department, join required check-ins, and uphold the Core Values and Red Lines. The agreement text below is reproduced exactly; Getting involved explains how the program works.
The agreement
As a Sapiens First Fellow, I agree to:
- Contribute: Aim to spend 5–10 hours per week on my Fellowship project during the term of the program, and communicate if my availability changes.
- Participate: Stay in touch with my Department and participate in required check-ins.
- Uphold our values: Follow the Sapiens First Core Values and Red Lines outlined at sapiensfirst.org/learn (including no bullying, harassment, or intimidation)
- Represent Sapiens First responsibly: Act in good faith when representing Sapiens First, and get approval before making significant commitments or public statements on behalf of the organization.
- Protect private information: Keep confidential information—such as passwords, personal member data, donor information, or private communications—secure.
- Share my work: Work I create specifically for Sapiens First during the Fellowship may be used, edited, published, and built upon by Sapiens First.
- Hand things off: If I leave a project, make a reasonable effort to leave behind the files, documentation, and context someone else needs to continue it.
I understand that the Fellowship is a volunteer program, not employment. I will not receive wages for my participation, and either I or Sapiens First may end my participation at any time.
Acceptance
I understand that I may accept this agreement electronically. By replying to the Fellowship offer email with “I agree” or other words clearly indicating my acceptance, I intend to agree to and be bound by this Fellowship Agreement.
This agreement is reproduced from the original Fellowship handbook. Follow the instructions in your Fellowship offer to accept it.
